What a whirlwind it's been. As we move into a new phase of our state's "Safe Start" plan, I am so excited to share that Seattle Chocolate Company will safely reopen our retail stores, and continue to serve our customers and community through random acts of chocolate.

FOOD SAFETY

Our production team is working diligently to ensure we can continue to brighten your doorstep with chocolate deliveries. They wear masks and gloves and have their temperature checked behind face shields every day by our Quality Control and Safety team. They reorganized and staggered production lines to stay six feet apart, routinely sanitize common touch points and work surfaces, and set rigorous protocols to ensure each person’s safety.

Currently, the FDA states there is no evidence of food or food packaging being associated with transmission of COVID-19.

GIVING BACK

Fighting food insecurity has long been at the heart of jcoco, and the public health crisis has exacerbated that need further. In addition to our #ChocolateFightsHunger food bank program, we’ve joined forces with Youth Care, Gourmondo catering, and 16 women business leaders to provide more than 1,000 meals to 100 young people experiencing homelessness. In New York City, another place hit hard with Coronavirus, we partnered with the Global Physicians Network to surprise healthcare workers with chocolate and boost morale. We also contributed to the effort of the World Cocoa Foundation, of which we are a proud member, to provide funding to help cocoa farmers and their families in the fight against COVID-19.

OUR TEAM

When the stay-at-home order was announced, our retail team quickly pivoted to offer safe curbside pickup. They deliver chocolate to customers who wanted to brighten the day of tenants, colleagues, and loved ones, and have distributed Cheers to Our Heroes bars, truffles, and other chocolate gifts to hospitals and frontline workers around the country – from Seattle to NYC. Our office team is working from home and continues to serve our many partners and vendors and provide delicious, feel-good experiences for our customers.

🍫⁠ As an SQF Certified food manufacturing facility, we have systems in place for the highest level of food safety. The system is constantly monitored, verified and validated.

🍫⁠ All employees are trained on Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and it is mandatory to follow GMP in our facility. Plant and warehouse employees are required to wash and sanitize hands and wear gloves, changing them often throughout the day.

🍫⁠ Employees that show symptoms of sickness are required to stay home. A temperature check is conducted for all employees prior to beginning shift daily.

• 🍫⁠ Plant and warehouse employees wear dedicated outerwear, shoes, and shoe coverings in the production and warehouse area.

🍫⁠ All employees maintain social distancing.

• 🍫 We perform a thorough cleaning and sanitizing of our plant every day.

🍫⁠ Only controlled access is provided for delivery personnel and customer pickups. Delivery drivers are required to wash and sanitize hands upon entry. It is posted on the delivery entrance that they may not enter if they are sick or have symptoms of sickness.
